We have some plans developing. First of all, in running the space we have had to clearly choose our timeslots for the next two years. So we may not know all the details but we do know when we have the space.
Our next piece will be created in the space in July and August 2008. It will perform in September and Octover. This piece is a little vague right now. It wants to be a visual and musical world, a little silent film, a little bit melodrama. We are currently using the working title of Melodrama at The Building Stage but hope it finds a real name before too long. Our goal in this completely designed universe will be to tell story with as much clarity as possible using as little text as possible. This piece continues the exploration of narrative, a theme for 2008. While the process will begin without any words, it will most likely have text thrown in at some point. Perhaps creating moments of clarity and depth and surprise. We don't know if this text will be written or found or how it will be introduced to the process.
Our first piece of 2009 will be in March and April. It looks like it will be another written play but no clear idea has emerged. To be honest, often our projects are chosen to respond in some way to where the company is coming from. It's hard to imagine where things will be after two more shows. One day we'll get this planning thing down.
And, last, we are thrilled with our plans for the fall of 2009. First of all its big. Second, it's crazy. Third, we can't be more excited. We are adapting--in some way, shape, or form which we haven't yet figured out--Wagner's Ring Cycle (that's almost 20 hours of Opera, folks!) for the stage. It won't be the operas but it will be an enormous story told with music and movement and puppetry and anything else we can use. We don't know details, but we hope for the piece to run between 6 to 8 hours. Most likely opening in early October of 2009.
